PEUGEOT 205 I Hatchback cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels
Peugeot 205 I (741A/C) cars are compact 3- and 5-door hatchbacks produced from 1983 to 1990. The model has become the most popular in the history of the French brand. This was one of Peugeot’s best-selling cars at that time. The model helped the manufacturer to establish its position in the range of compact cars. Second place in ‘European Car of the Year 1984’ demonstrates the success of this vehicle. You can buy spare parts for a Peugeot 205 I (741A/C) on the most favourable terms in our online shop. Technical characteristics of Peugeot 205 I (741A/C) hatchbacks
The hatchbacks were 3705 mm long, 1572 mm wide and 1376 mm high. The volume of luggage compartment varied from 216-1200 litres. The ground clearance reached 120 mm.
Both front and rear suspensions were independent and had stabilizer bars. This ensured a balance between comfort and stability of the vehicle.
Brake discs were installed on the front car axle, and drums were often on the rear axle.
Main versions
There were more than 20 versions of the Peugeot 205 (1983‒1990) hatchbacks produced during the whole manufacturing period, including both diesel and petrol ones. In most of them, torque was transmitted to the front wheels. However, an all-wheel drive rally version was available in this lineup as well.
The diesel 1.9 GTi version had balanced characteristics. Its engine had 4 cylinders, 8 valves and 131 hp. Thanks to the system of electronic fuel injection, the car had excellent dynamic performance, for example, acceleration to 100 km/h in mere 7.8 seconds, a top speed of 208 km/h. Average fuel consumption in the combined cycle equaled 7.8 litres per 100 km. Payload capacity of the hatchback was 440 kg.
This version had brake discs on all wheels. Also, low-profile 15-inch tyres were installed on it.
Trim levels of 205 I (741A/C)
Numerous trim levels were offered for these cars. A trim was marked with a corresponding letter in the version name: N, E, L, R, S, T or J. Moreover, the hatchbacks were released in limited series: Color Line, Green, Junior, Look, Roland Garros, Winner and others.
The equipment list was generally quite modest, for example a power steering, front power windows and tinted windows were factory-installed on only a few versions. In most cases these options were available for an extra charge. A roof hatch and fog lights were also offered optionally.
