Jeep CJ5-CJ8 SUVs were produced from 1966 to 1987. These were three-door vehicles which could have either two or four seats. These SUVs were characterised by reliability and excellent off-road performance. They were used for fire-fighting and transport by the United States Forest Service and Canadian Armed Forces. Jeep CJ5-CJ8 SUVs: specifications
Depending on the version and the year of production, the dimensions of the vehicles varied in the following ranges: length – between 3420 and 3950, width – between 1740 and 1828, height – between 1720 and 1735 mm. The ride height of most vehicles was 200 mm. The maximum allowable load capacity was 680 kg.
These vehicles had a body-on-frame construction. They had both rear and front leaf suspension.
Main versions
About fifteen versions of the Jeep CJ5-CJ8 (1966–1987) SUVs were made. They included both petrol and diesel models. The vehicles were equipped with either rear or all-wheel drive.
One of the most powerful models was a petrol 5.0 МТ 4WD version with 4-speed manual transmission. The vehicle was equipped with the brand’s full-time AWD system Quadra-Trac. It had a V8 petrol engine which produced 121 hp.
CJ5-CJ8 SUVs trim levels
There were a great number of trim levels available. The most popular were Tuxedo Park Mark II, Tuxedo Park Mark III, Camper, 462, Renegade, Renegade I, Renegade II, Super Jeep, Golden Eagle, Silver Anniversary, Golden Hawk, Laredo, Limited and Jamboree Commemorative Edition.
The factory-installed equipment of many Jeep CJ5-CJ8 SUVs included a vinyl interior and front passenger grab bars. Starting from 1974, the base trim included an audio system. Air conditioning was available as an optional extra.
The extended equipment package Tuxedo Park Mark IV offered chrome bumpers and bonnet struts. The Renegade trim level included alloy wheels, rollover bars, power steering and brake boosters.
