Technical characteristics of Citroën Saxo (S0, S1)
The hatchbacks were 3718 mm long, 1595 mm wide and 1379 mm high. The car had 5 seats. The luggage compartment capacity equalled 280 litres. But it could be increased to 953 litres by folding the rear seats. Road clearance was 120 mm. Sport versions slightly differed in dimensions. Their length, width and height were 3737 mm, 1620 mm and 1360 mm respectively.
Both suspensions were independent: the front one with MacPherson struts, the rear – with double wishbones. As a rule, brake discs were installed on the front axle only. Only the sport versions could boast disc brakes on all wheels.
The body was characterized by increased durability and resistance to corrosion. Drag coefficient was 0.34.
Main versions
About 20 versions of Citroën Saxo (S0, S1) were produced during the years; they included diesel, petrol and one electric version. All of them were front-wheel-drive.
The sport version, 1.6i VTS 16V, was among the most powerful and dynamic. The heart of its powertrain was a 120 hp 4-cylinder 16-valve engine with multipoint fuel injection, producing the torque of 145 N⋅m. Acceleration to 100 km/h took only 8.7 seconds. Top speed reached 205 km/h. At the same time, fuel consumption was rather moderate: 6.3 litres in the extra-urban cycle, 8.1 litres – in the combined cycle and 11.4 litres – in the urban cycle. Max loading capacity of the car was 498 kg. The transmission was manual with 5 speeds.
Trim levels of Saxo (S0, S1)
Saxo (S0, S1) hatchbacks were offered in the following trim levels: SX, VTR, X, VSX, Exclusive, Sport, Furio, First and others.
The car of Exclusive trim was equipped with a driver airbag, central locking with remote control, front electric windows, fog lights, electrically-adjusted side mirrors with heating, tinted windows, sport seats and other equipment. The rear seats had headrests and split-folding backs. Windscreen wipers could operate in intermittent mode and the intensity of instrument lighting was adjustable. Alloy wheels, sunroof, air conditioner, passenger airbag, anti-lock braking system were offered for an extra charge.
