The BMW 7 series vehicles (the E32) are luxury saloons manufactured between 1986 and 1994. During this time, 311,068 cars were built. Technical specifications of BMW 7 series (E32)
The length of the saloon was 4,910 mm, its width was 1,845 mm and the height was 1,411 mm. The ride height was 120 mm and the luggage compartment capacity equaled 500 l. Saloons with a long wheelbase had other dimensions: their length, width and height were 5,024 mm, 1,845 mm and 1,400 mm, respectively. The vehicle was a five-seater except for the four-seat version 750iL with the Highline trim level Some versions featured drilled brake discs both on the front and rear axles. Saloons with a long wheelbase could boast four-piston brake callipers.
There were only petrol engines offered for the BMW 7 series saloons (E32, 1986–1994) Overall, there were 21 versions. With regard to innovations, the most interesting one was the 750iL AT.
It was fitted with a 300 hp V-engine with 12 cylinders and 24 valves. Its maximum torque was 450 N⋅m and revolutions could reach 5,200 per minute. The car accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and its maximum speed was limited by electronics at 250 km/h. The load capacity of the version reached 520 kg. The fuel consumption was relatively high: it took 20.8 l of petrol to cover the distance of 100 km in an urban area, 13.5 l – in a mixed cycle and 8.8 l – on a highway.
Trim packages of the 7 series (E32)
The 7 series saloons (E32) were made in Shadow Line and Highline packages, apart from the basic one, and the Executive trim level was additionally offered in some markets. Customers could choose several variants of interior trimming – combinations of different kinds of leather and natural wood.
The Highline package with the widest range of equipment featured driver’s and passenger’s airbags, anti-lock braking system, telephone or fax, two-zone climate control. It was possible to control the sound system with 6 or 10 speakers from the rear seats. Besides, the backs of the front seats were fitted with foldable tables for rear seat passengers. When the seat belts were fastened, headrests popped up automatically from the backs of rear seats. Windscreen wipers were fitted with a special mechanism which provided optimal downforce according to the driving speed.
