BMW 6 Coupe (E24) cars: technical specifications, versions and trim levels
BMW 6 series (E24) vehicles are the first generation of four-seat coupés which were manufactured between 1975 and 1989. They were characterised by an attractive design, excellent dynamics and extensive equipment for that time. Not once the sports version M 635 CSi won international racing competitions. Technical specifications of BMW 6 series (E24)
The BMW 6 series (1975–1989) coupé was 4,755 mm long, 1,725 mm wide and 1,365 mm high. The luggage compartment capacity was 415 l. The ride height was 140 mm. Front brake discs, and in some versions rear as well, were drilled.
During the production years, there were 41 versions of the coupé made: 18 — before 1982, 17 — between 1982 and 1987, 6 — between 1987 and 1989. All of them were equipped with petrol engines only, which were combined with 4- or 5-speed manual transmission, 3- and later 4-speed automatic transmission.
One of the most dynamic versions was the 635CSi MT (220 hp). Its 6-cylinder 12-valve engine had the torque of 315 N⋅m and reached up to 5,700 RPM. Maximum speed of the coupé was 230 km/h and the car could reach 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. Meanwhile, the fuel consumption was moderate: 7.9 l per 100 km on a highway, 11.5 l in a mixed cycle and 16.8 l in an urban area. The payload capacity of the version was 420 kg. Multipoint fuel injection provided stable and even engine performance, ensured better vehicle dynamics and fuel efficiency.
Trim packages of the 6 series (E24)
BMW 6 series coupés (E24) had rich standard equipment. Depending on the version, they could boast anti-lock braking system, power steering, tachometer and onboard computer. The Check Control system became a technological innovation: it allowed by pressing the button to make sure that brake and reverse lights work, check the level of coolant, oil and brake fluid and also to find out the brake pad thickness. It was cosy and comfortable inside the car. The leather-trimmed steering wheel with a collapsible steering column was height adjustable. The buttons which controlled the sunroof and electric windows were located on the front doors. Wing mirrors and the driver’s seat were also electrically adjustable. Full leather or combined upholstery of the seats was also included in the base trim. Air conditioning, alloy wheels, cruise control, fog lights and tinted windows were offered as optional extras.
