The BMW 3 series (the E46/4) are five-seat sedans, which were produced between 1998 and 2005. They were in great demand not only in Europe but in South and North American, African and Asian countries. The technical specifications of the BMW 3 series (the E46/4)
The sedan was 4,471 mm long, 1,739 mm wide and 1,415 mm high. The capacity of the luggage compartment was 440 l. The ride height was 130 mm. After the facelift of 2003, the height of the body increased up to 1,434 mm.
Overall, there were 70 versions of the BMW 3 series (the E46/4) manufactured: 26 petrol, 5 diesel before the facelift of 2003; 26 petrol, 13 diesel after it.
One of the most powerful and dynamic versions was 330xd MT. Its 6-cylinder 24-valve engine with the torque of 410 Н⋅м had the output of 204 hp. The saloon accelerated to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and could reach the speed of 234 km/h. The turbocharger and direct fuel injection ensured excellent dynamics and also improved fuel economy. It took 6.2 l of fuel to cover 100 km on a highway, 7.6 l – in the mixed cycle and 10.2 l – driving in an urban area. The carrying capacity of the saloon was 500 kg.
The version had all-wheel drive, a 6-speed manual transmission and demonstrated excellent operational characteristics regardless the type of road surface. The front and rear axles were fitted with ventilated brake discs.
The trim packages of the 3 series (the E46/4)
Apart from the basic trim, they offered Executive and Essence packages for the BMW 3 series saloons (1998–2005). The limited edition Black & Silverline was characterised by its own range of equipment. The common feature of all these cars is a high level of active and passive safety.
The Executive package of the car included anti-lock braking system with the electronic brakeforce distribution system, electronic stability programme and traction control, airbags and curtain airbags, seat belts with pretensioners. The driver’s and passenger’s seats were height adjustable and it was also possible to order sports seats with a well-developed and leather upholstery for an extra charge. The onboard computer and sound system were included in the basic trim and the navigation system was available as an optional extra. It was cosy and comfortable inside the car: the brightness of the dashboard lighting could be adjusted, the climate-control system ensured optimal temperature inside the car regardless the weather. Windscreen wipers were activated automatically by the rain sensor.
